A wooden playpen is a  classic, durable, sturdy, safe and attractive. They have stable sides that can help your baby practise balance when he is just starting to walk. Usually, wooden playpens have more floor area than other playpens of a different material. Wooden playpens give babies a better view.

Wooden playpens should also have teething rails on all sides and should securely adhere so the little fingers of your baby will never get under them. Although wooden playpens tend to look awkward and heavy, they are can be safer than some others.

I like the wood.

It reminds me of many years ago when my mother produced me a sister. I was 12 years old at the time so I remember the event clearly. I clearly remember the wooden playpen my mum had to contain my very mobile baby sister.
This is the only reason I can think of for having a preference for wood over plastic. After all, some of the modern interactive plastic baby playpens are absolutely magnificent.
